Transfer Credit

New Mexico State University welcomes students who have demonstrated prior learning via any number of methods, such as coursework at other institutions, college level equivalency examinations, military experience and even some work related certifications, licensures and professional development experiences.

Are you interested in seeing how your past experiences can help you achieve your current academic and career goals? Explore all the ways your past experiences can count, as transfer credit, toward a degree at NMSU:

    • Transfer Course Equivalency Search tool: Search commonly transferred courses taken at other Colleges and Universities. If you don’t see a school you attended, or a course you took, email trcpteval@nmsu.edu and we will help determine what the NMSU equivalency will be. Transfer credit is automatically accepted from all regionally accredited institutions. Regional accrediting agencies are: Middle State Association; Northwest Commission on Colleges and University; North Central Association or Higher Education; New England Association of Schools and College; Southern Association and Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Coursework completed at institutions that are not regionally accredited will be considered on an individual basis and in accordance with NMSU policy (ARP 4.61).
    • AP (Advanced Placement) Exams: Students who have taken an Advanced Placement Exam and earned composite scores of 3, 4, or 5 will be granted transfer credit as determined by the State of New Mexico Higher Education Department (HED).
    • International Baccalaureate Exams: Students who have earned a score of 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 on an International Baccalaureate exam will be granted transfer credit as indicated.
    • Credit for Prior Learning (CPL): Students may earn transfer credit for professional licensure, workforce certifications, and other workforce training documentation. Students should talk to their Admission Advisor about how to request a review of their documentation for consideration by the academic subject matter Department.
