Time Blocks

Beginning Spring 2021, NMSU will use the following standard time blocks for 3 credit hour courses. The "Carnegie" credit hour is defined as a minimum of 50 minutes of contact time and the expectation of two hours of outside work per week over a 15 week semester (ARP 4.63).

For the purpose of alleviating student frustration in planning a class schedule, and in hopes of helping students progress toward the completion of their academic goals more quickly, courses with a credit hour value below 3 should be scheduled within one of the the below standard timeblocks. Courses exceeding 3 credit hours should be scheduled in a manner to be least disruptive to the below standard timeblocks (i.e. do not schedule sections at start and end times that cross more standard time blocks than  absolutely necessary). Courses that must be scheduled across standard timeblocks should be scheduled outside of defined primetime (ARP 12.71.3.D).
