Registration Schedule by Classification

If you have attended NMSU any time in the past three semesters you are eligible to register.* All others, Apply for Admission

August 20 – December 12, 2025

  • Early Registration: April 10, 2025 – August 21, 2025
  • Late Registration: August 22, 2025 – August 29, 2025 ($25 late registration fee applies per campus)

Registration by Classification

Registration dates are determined by your classification at the time of registration.  Classifications are determined by the completion of credits as depicted below:

Classification Completion of Credits
Freshman Successful completion of 1 – 27 credits
Sophomore Successful completion of 28 – 59 credits
Junior Successful completion of 60 – 89 credits
Senior Successful completion of 90 + credits

Below is the schedule of dates when registration will be open, depending on student classification.  Students who do not register on their designated date can register any time up until the second day of classes. See the available class schedules here.

SENIOR CITIZENS* (New Mexico residents who are 65 or older  may attend New Mexico State University at a reduced tuition rate). Individuals must  apply, qualify and register* through University Student Records on the first day of class. Wednesday August 20, 2025
*NOTE: Any student placed on academic suspension during the end of the term grading process will have pre–registered courses for future semesters cancelled and applicable refunds will be made by the University Accounts Receivable.

*Senior Citizens: In accordance with New Mexico Administrative Code (N.M.A.C.) 5.7.19, New Mexico residents age 65 years or older, who register on the first day of class, will be assessed the reduced tuition rate of $5.00 per credit hour with no university approved required fees up to a maximum of 10 credit hours.  Senior citizen students can only be registered by University Student Records. Any senior citizen  students who register prior to the first day of class will be assessed the full NMSU tuition plus university approved required fees and will be responsible for any applicable course fees.
