An Apostille is a certificate of the authenticity, issued by a Secretary of State, of the signature or seal of the authority that signed or sealed a public document and the capacity in which the signature or seal was affixed. Apostilles  are most often needed by international students or students who are working outside the United States of America.   The Apostille process does take time, both to produce the original document and for you to send and receive your documents from the State of New Mexico. Please plan accordingly.

When University Student Records receives a request for a notarized transcript, the staff print the requested document(s), procure the signature of an authorized University employee, and notarize the document. The document(s) and notary statement are mailed, first class, to the requestor provided address.

It is the requestor's responsibility to send the information to the New Mexico Secretary of State Office for an Apostille. See the  State of New Mexico Notary and Aspostille Information for forms and steps to complete, after you receive the notarized official transcript from New Mexico State University.

Upon receipt of the notarized official paper transcript(s), you will need to
  1. prepare the Apostille Form as indicated New Mexico's Secretary of State's website.
  2. mail all required documents, with a check or money order for the fee, to the Secretary of State’s Office.
The Apostille will be affixed to the transcript by the Secretary of State’s Office and mailed to the address you indicate on their form.

Requests for official transcripts will not be fulfilled until all financial obligations to NMSU are paid.
